Rowen Art Group is the Memorial Hall’s longest-standing user. The Group was founded by the Women’s Institute in the late 1950’s with 8 members and has been based in the village of Rowen ever since.
Initially, we had funding from the Local Education Authority and then the Workers Education Authority, but in the 1990s we became self-financing.
We are a group of local amateur painters who seek, individually and collectively, to develop and improve our artistic skills under the guidance of our Tutor.
We hold occasional full-day workshops hosted by invited professional artists to explore new themes and techniques.
In 2025, we set up special interest groups which meet elsewhere and at different times to suit the membership. This allows those involved to pursue specific interests such as abstracts or portraiture.
Our annual exhibition in July celebrates our year’s effort and allows us to bring our work to a wider audience.
Classes are held on Wednesday mornings, October to May, using a variety of media.
